Free Fitness Tuesdays! Summer Fitness Sampler June 18 – July 23

Summer is here and it is time to get outside and play! North Ottawa Community Health System and our collaborating partners are giving you an opportunity to sample some fun things to get you outside and be active! This is your chance to try yoga, Pilates, meditation, strength training or a historical walking tour! Bring a friend or two and join us for some summer fitness fun.

Dress appropriately for the weather and for the classes! Bring a water bottle, yoga mat (or blanket) where applicable; wear supportive shoes for the walking tours. All classes are FREE and located at the new Lynn Sherwood Waterfront Stadium.

Tuesday, June 18
Historical Walk, 9:30 – 11:00 am – Tri-Cities Historical Museum will be leading walks throughout our city to point out interesting buildings and architecture along with giving you cardiovascular exercise! Meet at the Brass River between the Train Depot and the Chamber building at 1 N. Harbor Dr.. You must register for this class – space is limited! To register call 616-842-0700.

Pilates, 10:00 – 11:00 am – Pilates may sound intimidating, but it’s an accessible way to build strength in your core muscles for better posture, balance and flexibility. Jillian DeJonge from Generation Care will be leading this class. *Bring yoga mat, towel or blanket

Strength Training, 10:00 – 11:00 am – Strength training is an important part of any fitness program. Muscular strength helps you burn fat, increase bone density, avoid injuries and build confidence just to name a few benefits! Tri-Cities YMCA staff will demonstrate exercises you can take home and use as a part of your fitness program.

Meditation, 10:00 – 11:00 am – Learn a simple, easy way to reduce stress. Meditation has a long history of uses for relaxation, enhancing overall health and providing a sense of calm. Experience a meditation class with Monica VerPlank, local wellness practitioner.

Tuesday, July 16
Yoga, 10:00 – 11:00 am – Yoga is a physical, mental and spiritual practice. It will provide strength, flexibility and reduce stress. Learn how yoga will stretch you in many different ways. Provided by Tri Cities YMCA staff. *Bring yoga mat, towel or blanket.

Tuesday, July 23
Tai Chi, 10:00 – 11:00 am – Tai Chi is an ancient form of exercise that is performed in slow, deliberate movements. It helps with balance, flexibility and muscular strength. Frank Roldan from Four Pointes Center for Successful Aging will be leading this peaceful practice.
